Reconstitution & Vials

Lyophilized

Also called: freeze-dried, freeze dried

Definition

Freeze-dried: a form in which water has been removed from a product under controlled conditions.

What Lyophilized means

Lyophilization is used to produce a dry material that may later be reconstituted according to the product's instructions or research context.

Why the distinction matters

Seeing a dry cake or powder does not by itself tell you the product's identity, purity, stability, or appropriate preparation method.

Common confusion

Lyophilized describes the physical processing state of a product. It does not mean that every lyophilized vial should be handled the same way.
