Why concentration matters
You cannot convert a mass such as mg directly into a liquid volume such as mL without knowing concentration. Concentration tells you how much mass is contained in each mL of solution.
Example concentration: 5mg/mL
At 5mg/mL, a mass of 0.25mg corresponds mathematically to 0.05mL.
Because 1mL corresponds to 100 U-100 units, 0.05mL corresponds to 5 units on that scale.

How many U-100 units are in 1mL?
On a U-100 syringe scale, 1mL corresponds to 100 units. Therefore, 0.1mL corresponds to 10 units and 0.5mL corresponds to 50 units.
Why is concentration needed to convert mg or mcg to mL?
Mass and liquid volume are different measurements. The concentration of the solution establishes how much mass is present in each mL, allowing conversion between them.
Can syringe units be converted directly to mg?
Only when the solution concentration is known. U-100 units describe liquid volume, while mg describes mass.
