Peptide
Definition
A chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds.
What Peptide means
Peptides range from short signaling molecules to larger chains with very different biological roles. The word peptide describes a chemical class, not a single effect or safety profile.
Why the distinction matters
Two compounds can both be called peptides while having different targets, evidence quality, regulatory status, pharmacokinetics, and clinical relevance.
Common confusion
Calling something a peptide does not imply that it is naturally occurring, approved, effective, safe, or supported by human evidence.
