What is KPV?
KPV stands for lysine-proline-valine, a three-amino-acid sequence derived from the C-terminal region of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, or alpha-MSH. Researchers have studied KPV because it appears to retain some anti-inflammatory effects associated with alpha-MSH without its pigmentary activity.
What does the evidence actually show?
Most KPV evidence comes from cell experiments, animal models, and mechanistic research. Studies in human-derived keratinocytes and bronchial epithelial cells have reported effects on inflammatory signaling, but those are laboratory models rather than trials demonstrating a therapeutic benefit in people.
KPV and inflammation
Experimental studies have explored KPV effects on pathways such as NF-kappaB signaling, cytokine release, and cellular inflammatory responses. Reviews of alpha-MSH-derived peptides describe KPV as a potentially useful anti-inflammatory sequence, but proposed therapeutic applications remain investigational.
