What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic form of the first 29 amino acids of human growth hormone-releasing hormone, also called GHRH or GRF. It stimulates the pituitary GHRH receptor and can trigger endogenous growth hormone release rather than supplying growth hormone directly.

Sermorelin has a historical FDA approval

The FDA Orange Book lists Geref sermorelin acetate products that were approved in 1990 and 1997. Those products are now in the discontinued section, and FDA records indicate they were not withdrawn for safety or effectiveness reasons. That history is different from saying that a currently marketed FDA-approved sermorelin product is available today.

What does human research show?

Human studies dating back to the 1980s demonstrated that GRF(1-29) can stimulate growth hormone release. Pediatric research also evaluated repeated subcutaneous GRF(1-29) administration for growth disorders. These data establish human biological activity, but they do not validate modern anti-aging, bodybuilding, recovery, or wellness claims.

How Sermorelin differs from CJC-1295

Sermorelin is essentially a short GHRH(1-29) peptide. CJC-1295 was engineered to extend persistence, especially in its DAC-containing form. Human evidence for the original long-acting CJC-1295 should not be transferred automatically to sermorelin, and neither should online claims about compounds marketed as CJC-1295 No DAC be treated as interchangeable with historical Geref evidence.

Sermorelin vs Tesamorelin

Both compounds act through the GHRH receptor, but their regulatory histories differ. Tesamorelin has currently marketed FDA-approved EGRIFTA products for a specific HIV-associated lipodystrophy indication. Sermorelin's historical Geref approvals are discontinued.

Competitive-sport context

Growth hormone-releasing factors are prohibited under WADA Section S2. Sermorelin acts directly in the GHRH pathway, so athletes subject to anti-doping rules should not assume that a peptide with historical medical use is permitted.
